Role Playing

Role playing is an effective proactive and responsive EPP tool. It can be used prior to an actual behavioral challenge or in response to a known one. You can role play with your child before going to grandma’s, on a playdate, a child being offered drugs or alcohol, or a talk with an important adult. Smaller children can use puppets and stuffed animals to assist. Older children have a greater vocabulary and can work through the issues verbally.

Describe the scene to your child, with each of you taking a “role” in the upcoming event. Go over the likely progression and work towards role playing good choices.

This tool can effectively be used at any age, with age appropriate accommodations.
